Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Submit to a BCI background check and pay the applicable fee.
  • Consent to a DCFS Central Registry check and National Sex Offender Registry search.
  • Commit to at least 6 months of service
  • Complete paperwork and orientation training.

Onsite Victim Support Volunteers

Two hour shift, once a week (shifts run Monday-Friday, 8 am - 6 pm).

Volunteers provide emotional and logistical support to children who come to our Center for an interview, medical exam, or treatment appointment. Volunteers assist in keeping children safe and comfortable by doing simple activities with them such as playing games or reading. Greet families when they arrive. Ensure a child-friendly and welcoming environment. Keep the child company to ensure they feel safe and supported.

Children's and Teen Groups

Tuesday evenings, 3:15 pm - 8 pm.

The Child/Teen/Parent Groups, led by licensed clinical therapists, are held on Tuesday evenings. Volunteers help with signing in families and assisting children during group sessions.

Family Justice Center

Tuesday evenings, 4 pm - 8:30 pm.

Volunteers conduct interviews with the clients to ensure that they receive the appropriate services and talk with the appropriate agencies. Volunteers assist in coordinating between the clients and the agencies. If the volunteers speak Spanish they assist in translating for the Spanish-speaking clientele.

Volunteers will need to complete a required 40-hour trauma training prior to beginning.
