ANTON OLIVER PRETO BAY

On December 5, 2017, Anton Bay, 19, entered guilty pleas to Assaulting a Peace Officer and giving False Personal Information to a Peace Officer. Bay was sentenced to the Utah State Prison for 1-15 years.

On September 29, 2017, officers approached a suspicious vehicle in Orem, in which Anton Bay was a passenger. He provided a false name and false date of birth. When confronted about the false information, Bay quickly exited the vehicle, pointed a gun at one of the officers, and fired three times. A second officer drew his weapon and would have shot Bay except for concern for the person seated behind Bay in the vehicle. The officer nearest to Bay then grabbed the weapon from Bay and realized it was a BB gun, made of plastic. Bay tried to run from officers and once apprehended, refused to cooperate, telling the officers he was going to kill them.

At the time of this incident, Bay had a warrant for his arrest from a previous incident:

On March 12, 2017, Bay was driving a stolen vehicle and when police officers tried to stop him, he took off at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued with lights and siren, but Bay did not stop until he lost control of the vehicle and hit a light pole in Springville. Bay caused thousands of dollars of damage and his passenger was also injured in the crash. Bay ran from the scene but was apprehended by police. In this case, Bay was charged with and convicted of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, a second- degree felony and Evading a Police Officer, a third-degree felony. He was originally sentenced in May of 2017 to 150 days of jail and placed on probation with Adult Probation and Parole. At the time of the incident on September 29, 2017, Bay had an active warrant for his failure to report and comply with his probation conditions on these charges. On January 16, 2018, the court revoked his probation on this case and sentenced him to the Utah State Prison for 1-15 years on the Theft charge and 0-5 on the Evading charge.

For the guilty pleas of Assaulting a Peace Officer, a second- degree felony and giving False Personal Information to a Peace Officer, a Class A misdemeanor, Anton Bay was sentenced to the Utah State Prison for a term of 1-15 years by the Honorable Judge Derek Pullan on January 16, 2018.
