Officials with the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest have implemented a prescribed burn in areas near Sheep Creek, Soldier Summit, and Tie Fork in Utah County.

*** PRESS RELEASE October 14, 2019 ***

On about October 8, 2019, officials with the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest (UWCNF), US Forest Service, implemented a prescribed burn in Spanish Fork Canyon in Utah County.  The area impacted is east of Sheep Creek and north of Tie Fork and Soldier Summit.  According to Loyal Clark, Public Affairs Officer with UWCNF, the purposes of the prescribed burn project are to
"reduce hazardous fuels, restore fire-adaptive ecosystems, regenerate aspen, reduce conifer encroachment into aspen stands, and improve wildlife habitat."  UWCNF officials say these efforts will do several things, including improve wildlife and big game habitat, protect water sources, and promote healthy watersheds.

Smoke will be visible at times in the Soldier Summit area from US Highway 6, US Highway 40 in Wasatch County, and from the surrounding mountains.  For firefighter and public safety roads and trails in these areas are closed.  Closed roads include #131, #117, #612, and #613.  Closed Forest Service trails include #310 and #311.  See attached map.
