UPDATE Victim identified. A 21 year old Orem man is in jail after he crashed on Squaw Peak Road in Provo Canyon. His 21 year old passenger died in the crash. Charges include DUI and automobile homicide.

The 21 year old man killed in a DUI crash early Sunday Morning, May 17, 2020, on Squaw Peak Road in Provo canyon is Miguel Angel Gonzalez-Bautista or Orem. Gonzalez-Bautista was the passenger in a car driven by Victor Alencastro. Alencastro had consumed beer and chose to drive down Squaw Peak Road. As he approached sharp turn in the road he failed to maintain control of his car, driving over the side and rolling several times. Gonzalez-Bautista was thrown from the car through the sunroof and died at the scene shortly after the crash.

About 4:00 this morning two men were driving down Squaw Peak Road in Provo Canyon when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. He lost control and rolled off the side of the road, rolling several times down a steep embankment, coming to rest about 200 feet down the mountain. The driver was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. The 21 year old passenger was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the car through the sunroof and died at the scene. The driver, Victor Alencastro, 21, of Orem, told Deputies and Officers he had been drinking beer and was driving too fast and could not make the turn. After being treated at Utah Valley Hospital Alencastro was booked into the Utah County Jail on charges of automobile homicide, a third degree felony, and DUI-injury accident, a class A misdemeanor. Bail has been set for Alencastro at $6,420.00 cash or bond.
