The first annual Utah Special Victims Investigations Conference has concluded. Attendees learned a great deal and plans are to make this an annual event.

*** PRESS RELEASE September 25, 2019 ***

It is with great pleasure that the United Stated Marshals Service and the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Task Force announce the completion of the first annual Utah Special Victims Investigations Conference.  This three day conference was the first of its kind in Utah.  The purpose of the conference was to provide specific training for law enforcement officers who investigate crimes against special victims.  Training was provided by nationally and internationally renowned experts in the areas of Child Exploitation, Internet Crimes Against Children, Sex Offender Registration Laws and Requirements, and other topics designed to teach investigative techniques that would enable those involved in pursuing this cases to conduct more thorough investigations. Attendees included investigators from Utah and across the United States.   Our long term goal is to continue to provide this training in the hope that investigators can return to their home jurisdictions and through their efforts in the areas of education, victim centered policing, community cooperation, and quality investigations, bring positive and lasting change to the special victims and their families in these communities.   We welcome assistance from agencies, businesses, and other community partners that would like to assist us in this endeavor.

"In coordination with the Utah County Sheriff, the US Marshals Service was pleased to co-sponsor this event.  When federal agencies partner with state and local agencies to combine training efforts, our communities are stronger.  The US Marshals Service in Utah will continue its efforts to ensure we do everything possible to ensure we have the tools to combat, prevent and eradicate sex crimes in Utah and to keep our children safe."  --Matt Harris, United States Marshals Service, District of Utah
