Foster Grandparent Program

foster grandparents helpingThe Foster Grandparent program has been a part of the Utah County Government landscape since its inception in 1965. For 50 years now our volunteers have been serving in schools, developmental & youth detention centers, head start programs, and many other facilities all across Utah County where children with special or exceptional needs find the comfort, care, and love that only a Foster Grandparent volunteer can provide.

A Foster Grandparent volunteer will serve as a role model, mentor, tutor, and friend. They work directly with trained professionals to provide our community’s children with the support and guidance they need to succeed in life. For at least 15 hours a week they dependably share their experience and companionship.

There are a few stipulations that need to be met in order to become a member of this amazing program.

You must be 55 or over and income eligible (for a single person, you can’t make more than $1966.00 per month). A joy of working with children is a must!

foster grandparents busOnce a part of the program, a volunteer will receive a stipend of about $200.00 per month, monthly training, a free meal during the work day, and in many cases mileage reimbursement or transportation to and from the volunteer facility. As many of our volunteers will tell you the benefits go beyond the stipend. "This is really the highlight time of my day when I'm working with these kids. I feel that I am doing a lot of good." Mr. Andrews would tell anyone who asked.

There are many opportunities to serve and we are looking for volunteers across the county. If you or someone you know would like to become a Foster Grandparent, please contact our office for an application.
