JOSHUA JAY HARDING

On October 9, 2015, Joshua Jay Harding pleaded no contest to Child Abuse, a 3rd Degree Felony, and Negligent Homicide, a Class A Misdemeanor.

On November 27, 2012, shortly after 10:00 a.m., emergency responders were called to a Provo home located at 1074 West 860 North where Joshua Harding lived with his girlfriend and her four children, including her 3-month-old son, Paxton. When law enforcement and emergency medical personnel arrived, they found infant Paxton unconscious and not breathing. After performing CPR on the pale, non-responsive infant, Paxton was transported immediately to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:01 a.m. The autopsy revealed that the baby's death resulted from multiple head injuries. Paxton also had numerous additional injuries including bruising and abrasions around his neck, bruising on his head, face, and torso, a torn frenulum of his upper lip, and abnormalities of his left femur and tibia suggestive of healing fractures from previous injuries. The examining physicians indicated that the injuries suffered by Paxton would have resulted in very rapid or possibly immediate observable symptoms, including loss of consciousness. The only person in baby Paxton's presence and the person entrusted with Paxton's care, prior to the 911 call, was Joshua Jay Harding.

On November 17, 2015, the Honorable Judge Pullan of the Fourth District Court, sentenced Joshua Jay Harding to 0-5 years in the Utah State Prison for his actions leading to the death of Paxton.
