JERAD DALE GOURDIN

On August 12, 2014, Jerad Dale Gourdin waived his right to delay time of sentencing and was sentenced to an indeterminate term of 0-5 years in the Utah State Prison.

On August 12th, 2014, an 8 person jury found Jerad Dale Gourdin, age 30, guilty of Aggravated Assault with a Weapon for having stabbed his neighbor in the back with a screwdriver. Mr. Gourdin, who's charges were enhanced because he is a habitual violent offender, waived his right to delay time of sentencing and was sentenced by the Honorable Claudia Laycock (Provo 4th District Court Judge) for an indeterminate term of 0-5 years in the Utah State Prison. Mr. Gourdin had recently been released from prison for having served two years on a prior conviction of assault where he stabbed another victim in the chest with a screwdriver. At 6:35 p.m. on May 22, 2014, officers from the Provo Police Department responded to investigate a fight taking place at 1659 West 50 North in Provo, Utah. Mr. Gourdin was in an argument with his neighbor who lived across the street. The dispute involved some money that was owed to Mr. Gourdin. When the money wasn't paid, Mr. Gourdin took the neighbor's dog, a pit bull, as ransom for the debt. When the neighbor confronted Mr. Gourdin about retrieving his dog, Mr. Gourdin attacked the man. After punches were exchanged, the assault between the two ended when Mr. Gourdin stabbed his neighbor in the back with a screwdriver he was carrying in his pocket. Due to the thorough investigation of skilled officers from the Provo Police Department, in coordination with a carefully orchestrated presentation by prosecutors from the Utah County Attorney's Office, a convicted felon is once again in prison.
