*** PRESS RELEASE October 4, 2019 ***

On Wednesday night, October 2, 2019, Lindon Police took a report of a man who went biking in the area of Dry  Canyon on the mountain above Lindon and had not returned.  Given the area where he told family he was going, Lindon Police contacted Sheriff's Office SAR officials to assist in the search.  The overdue man, age 67, of LIndon, told family he would return by about 7:00 PM Wednesday evening.  They said he engages in this kind of activity regularly and for him to not return was unusual.  Family spent a couple of hours searching before contacting police.

The man told family he was going to bike in the area near the mouth of Provo Canyon, so SAR team members searched there extensively.  After not finding him they expanded the search area to the north.  Also assisting with the search was a Sheriff's Office pilot in a small plane and a crew with the DPS helicopter.  Ultimately a couple of SAR members on motorcycles located the man at about 1:30  AM.  The man sustained scratches to his lower legs and he was cold, but he was otherwise uninjured.  He had abandoned his bike and tried climbing down the mountain.  Despite extensive experience in the area, he ended up on a trail he was not familiar with.  As he climbed down, the trees became too thick and the man elected to stop where he was.  The temperature was in the low 30's and the man was not at all dressed for that kind of weather.  Because of the temperatures, this could have been life threatening had the man not been found.
