A Provo woman is in the Utah County Jail after she used a handgun and an electronic incapacitation device to rob an assisted living center in Elk Ridge early Wednesday morning.

February 8, 2018 PRESS RELEASE: At 3:24 AM on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, dispatchers with Utah Valley Dispatch Special Service District received a 911 call from a woman who reported that she worked at Elk Ridge Assisted Living in Elk Ridge, in Utah County. She told dispatchers that someone entered the business who was wearing all black, including some kind of head cover, and was threatening her and another employee with a handgun and some kind of electronic incapacitation device, or stun gun. The employee who first called 911 said she received a call from someone saying a person was trying to get in to the facility. This was not unusual and the two employees assumed a resident had walked outside. When the first employee opened the door she was immediately confronted by a person dressed in black clothing and whose face was covered with some kind of black cloth or bandana. The intruder was pointing a handgun at this woman's face. The second employee immediately retreated into a room and locked the door. From there she called 911.

The second employee stayed in the locked room, monitoring and reporting to the dispatcher, until Deputies arrived. The suspect ordered the first employee to the main office where the medications are stored. The suspect was initially reported by the second employee to be possibly a man. As investigators learned later from the first employee, the suspect was actually a woman. The suspect gave the first employee a can of shaving cream and ordered her to spray the shaving cream on a security camera in the office. The employee complied. The suspect then demanded that this employee unlock a medication storage box. The employee was unable to open the box. The suspect said they would wait, but then she acted frustrated, grabbed backpacks belonging to the two employees, and fled the facility through the door she had entered. The first employee then found a phone and also called 911.

When Deputies from the Sheriff's Office, along with Salem and Payson Officers, arrived they secured a perimeter around the facility. They then methodically searched the facility until they were able to confirm that the suspect was not there and that the employees and all residents were accounted for and were uninjured. Detectives with the Sheriff's Office responded and interviewed the victims in this incident. The victims described a tall, thin woman dressed in black, with her head and face covered. The owner of the facility responded and helped in retrieving security video. After interviewing the victims and reviewing the video they believed the suspect had the same physical build, appearance, and mannerisms as an employee who was fired 6 weeks earlier.

Detectives began looking for the former employee, checking numerous addresses. At length Detectives found this woman at her residence in Provo. During the interview this woman admitted her involvement in the robbery. One of the victims reported that her debit card had recorded several transactions totaling $2,000.00. Those transactions were made using Facebook Pay and were sent to an account in the maiden name of the suspect. Detectives also found a check belonging to one of the victims in the amount of $500.00 that had not been cashed. The suspect admitted she wrote that check. After obtaining a search warrant for the suspect's residence and the car she drove, Detectives found the clothing she wore. They also found the can of shaving cream the suspect used to have the employee cover the security camera at the assisted living facility. Detectives also found methamphetamine, prescriptions drugs, and items of drug paraphernalia.

The suspect in this case, Becky Jean Golly (Maiden name Gavin), age 44, of Provo, has convictions in Utah for crimes including theft and fraud, and drug related charges. Golly was booked into the Utah County Jail on charges including Aggravated Robbery-Use or Threatened Use of Weapon, 1st degree felony; Financial Transaction With Intent to Defraud, 3rd degree felony; Forgery, 3rd degree felony; and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person, 3rd degree felony. Additional charges related to the drugs and drug paraphernalia may be charged later. Bail for Golly has been set at $50,000.00 cash only. Permission is granted for Golly's booking photo to be re-published.
