Utah County Sheriff's Office To Operate Sobriety Checkpoint

Posted On : 3/29/2017 3:55:07 PM

The Utah County Sheriff's Office will conduct a sobriety checkpoint Easter weekend on SR-6 west of Elberta.

The Utah County Sheriff's Office has received approval to operate a sobriety checkpoint on SR-6 at mile marker 147. This area is west of Elberta in southwest Utah County, and a few miles east of Eureka, in Juab County. The checkpoint is approved to operate Thursday, April 13, at 10:00 AM through Monday, April 17, at 6:00 AM, although it will not be fully operational that entire time. These dates are over Easter weekend. This weekend is traditionally the first of the spring season for outdoors and off road enthusiasts who travel to Little Sahara Recreation Area in Juab County. The purpose of the checkpoint is to deter impaired driving. The vast majority of people who pass through the checkpoint are supportive of this effort. The delay for motorists is typically less than 1 minute. If a Deputy discovers evidence of illegal activity during this brief encounter that driver will be asked to pull to the side of the roadway for further investigation. This particular checkpoint regularly discovers numerous violations, including DUI, open container, underage consumption or possession of alcohol, drug violations, and warrants.
