A Payson man and woman will be charged with theft after being caught stealing mail out of mailboxes in Utah County. Both have convictions for theft which enhances the seriousness of charges in this case.
On 1/21/17, at about 2:00 PM, Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of a man stealing mail out of a mailbox. A witness saw a man reach into her mailbox from the passenger side of a car. She described the car and the man so that when a Deputy arrived in the area he was able to find the car. The witness identified the passenger as the man who took the mail from her mail box. The woman who was driving, and the man, both admitted to taking mail from mailboxes. When Deputies searched the car they found 54 different items of mail from 16 different houses. 4 of those houses were in Provo, and the other 12 were in an unincorporated part of Utah County just north of Woodland Hills. The driver, Angela Dawn Black, age 40, of Payson, and the passenger, Ronald Scott Collings, age 37, also of Payson, will be summoned to appear in court. Deputies did not arrest them initially in order that they could conduct a more thorough investigation. Black and Collings both have prior convictions for theft. Because of that the theft charges they will face in this case will be enhanced to 3rd degree felonies. Each will face 16 counts of 3rd degree felony mail theft.
