*** UPDATE *** Man Found Dead in Tent

A man was found dead in a small tent in Diamond Fork Canyon in Utah County. There was no obvious cause of death. Investigators are working to locate family members.


*** UPDATE *** Investigators were able to locate and notify family of the victim found dead in a tent in Diamond Fork Canyon in Utah County. The victim's name is Lew Kyle Bryant, age 63. According to family Bryant suffered from several different medical conditions. Family also told investigators that Bryant was very transient and has lived in as many as 20 different states. They said he most enjoyed living in the mountains, but that he had not stayed in one area long enough to identify as a resident of any specific state. Bryant did, however, have either a driver license or ID from at least 6 different states. Cause and manner of Bryant's death are still unknown.

On June 14, 2014, at 3:13 PM, dispatchers with Utah Valley Dispatch Special Service District received a call from a man camping in Diamond Fork Canyon, a side canyon in Spanish Fork Canyon. The location was 14 miles from US Highway 6 on the Diamond Fork road. The caller said he had been camping near a man and last saw him on the morning of June 11. He also reported there was an unusual odor leading him to believe the man might be deceased.

Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office responded to they area. When they checked the tent they verified that the man in the tent was deceased. There was no obvious cause of death, but evidence at the scene led investigators to believe the death might be related to a medical condition. Investigators believe they have identified the man but they have been unable to identify and locate and family members to notify. The name of the victim will not be release immediately, pending notification of next of kin. The victim is a 62 or 63 year old man.
