ROYCE BRANDON SCHAEFER

On May 15, 2018, Royce Brandon Schaefer, 33, from American Fork, was found guilty of Sodomy Upon a Child and Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child, both first-degree felonies.

On June 4, 2016, a little 4-year-old girl was eating her macaroni and cheese on the sidewalk in front of her apartment at the Maple Village Apartments in American Fork. Royce Schaefer, a stranger, approached the little girl, visited with her briefly and fed her a bite of her mac and cheese. Schaefer kissed the little girl on her forehead, cheek, and lips and then picked her up. Schaefer turned the little girl onto her stomach over his arm and pulled up her dress. He then pulled down her underwear, bit her vagina and inserted his finger into her vagina. As Schaefer fled the scene, neighbors saw him jump a fence at the apartment complex and run away. After police officers contacted Schaefer and informed him that he was a suspect in the case, and while they waited for the DNA test results, Royce Schaefer moved to Ohio.

During the four-day jury trial in the Fourth District Court of Utah, another little girl victim testified about a sexual encounter with Royce Schaefer that occurred in Colorado.

Royce Schaefer will be sentenced on July 11, 2018 and faces a minimum sentence of 25 years to life at the Utah State Prison.
