PHILIP BOSWELL CASE

On March 2, 2018, following a four-day jury trial, Philip Boswell Case, 48, was found guilty of seven counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, each a second-degree felony.

In 2011, a couple living in West Jordan purchased an external hard drive, through an online classifieds ad, from Philip Case. Initially, the external hard drive appeared to be empty and for two years, the couple saved family photos and videos to the hard drive. In November of 2013, the husband accidentally deleted an important photo from the external hard drive. When he double clicked on the recycle bin on his desktop to retrieve the deleted photo, his recycle bin filled with several gigabytes of images of child pornography, as well as photos of Philip Case and his family. The couple reported the issue to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). It was determined that Philip Case had designated the external hard drive as his recycle bin, to harbor and hide the images of child porn which were never actually "deleted."

Agents from the Attorney General's Office, the Division of Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), went to the home of Philip Case in Eagle Mountain and showed him the hard drive. Case acknowledged selling the hard drive online but denied ever possessing child pornography. While investigators were at his home, Case allowed them to search and seize his computers. In doing so, investigators located more images of child pornography, including images associated with Case's specific fetishes. The laptop also showed recent searches for terms associated with child pornography.

Until sentencing on May 9, 2018, Philip Case is being held at the Utah County Jail.
